Too beautiful for the bin?

At home, in East Sussex, resides the gentle giant River – a 1 year
old 70kg Landseer Newfoundland. Being the beauty that she is, she requires
enormous mounts of brushing. And as I’m sure you already know, it
truly gets everywhere; on your jumper, pillows and dare i say your cup of
tea. (At least for me!) This posed the question, how can I design a better
use of all that fur? We've thrown it in the compost, or, depending on
the weather, left it out for the birds.  But, with very similar qualities to sheep
wool it has so much more potential!

There are only so many nests a bird can build... It is too beautiful
for the bin
, and so I am exploring to redirect the disregarded brushed fur
towards a more sustainable option. I have spent the past year researching
and playing with dog fur as a material, questioning the potential of spinning it
into a yarn or delicately weave. A very exciting work in progress, and one
which requires your help...and your dogs fur...!
