“Darf ich kurz Hallo sagen?” “Ja, natuerlich, *** Sitz! Er/Sie ist sehr freundlich”
“Wie heisst er/sie?” “Wie alt ist er/sie?” “Was fuer eine Hunderasse ist er/sie?”
An invitation, a social queue, a point of relatability; The Dog.
“Oh, my brother has one of these” “Their hair is a nightmare to upkeep”
“He/She comes with us everywhere” “He/She is a good boy/girl”
Travelling by car from Berlin back to London, I had the
pleasure of making the aquaintance with
Hanć, Kiwi, Amy, the Hundeschule Wohlfuhlen & Erleben,
Picar, Nymeria, Juri, Kira & Dolly along the way.
As a society; weary and sceptic of strangers, ‘stranger danger’,
we forget these fears when the Dog is involved;
almost as to completely wipe away any anxiety of
me, or, of you.
Is it because I brushed my teeth? Wore my ‘sensible’ skirt that
day and approached you in my best deutsch?
Does the clothing we dress ourselves with
play a role? At least with those of our ‘societal norms’ ?
The familiarity of language generates trust,
but, does appearance too?
Or is it the initial wiff which your pooch took,
that gave the green light to waiver
any anxiety of me, or, of you?

Der Hundeschule Wohlfuhlen & Erleben Gruppe
Since 2007, The ‘Wellbeing & Experience Dog School’, founded by dog trainer Martina, helps
nervous and anxious pups regain confidence
and ease within social settings.
A wonderful group to have met on their weekly
walk on the streets of small town Fussen.
Danke, Martina!
John adopted Dolly as a rescue pup when
she was just 1 year old. Little did I know,
that they have been my neighbours at
the studio for about 15 odd years.
A sweet greeting welcome back home.
